Majority of people pass through their lives without even trying to enjoy the life that is given to them. They blindly follow their daily routine and live automated lives just like robots. They either justify their situation or keep complaining about life but rarely do something to make them feel better. If you’re one of them, I must tell you that your life can be better, much better, but you have to do something about it.
If you want your situation to change, you must change first! So, are you ready to leave the old you and embrace the new you – the one who will be happier, fulfilled, joyous and what is even more important, the one who will live life on purpose?
Do You Enjoy Your Life?
Yesterday morning I was at the beach. It was very quiet, so I couldn’t help hearing everything without intentional listening. There was a couple with a little girl. It was their last day of 7 days holiday for this year. He was proudly informing everybody that they were leaving for the different county before lunch, so he could get to work at 7 pm that evening. Of course, everybody noticed how hard working he was. Before they left, he called somebody and asked for a small loan.
How sad was this – I thought. He worked hard the whole year, so he could spend a one-week holiday with his family. Then last day of their holiday he was looking for a loan, maybe for covering their holiday expenses. Did they even relax and enjoy their holiday?
Then I remembered that the majority of people live like this. They don’t pursue their dreams, they work for somebody else instead, they usually get one to two weeks holiday during summer and go away with their family if they can afford to spend their money without jeopardize their everyday living.
Do You Fit In?
We are conditioned to live our lives according to generally accepted rules – go to school, get a degree, get a job, get a loan, buy a house, get married, raise children, work hard and get retired. If you ticked all these boxes without getting any disease along the way, you’re considered to be living very good life, and now you are old enough to get sick and die.
To be accepted from the society, it’s more important to get formal education than self-education, to get a job than to follow your life calling, to get married than to truly love, to have children than to raise children, to suffer than to be happy, to work hard than to do what you love doing, to fit in than to enjoy your life.
Majority of people are not even aware that their life could be different. They stuck with the program they have carried on since their childhood and there are very rare individuals who dare to deviate from established patterns.
Get Out of Your Program
The stories about the world and how are we supposed to behave in it are passed around from generation to generation to us. These stories that we were told during our childhood form our deeply held beliefs.
These beliefs are filters through which we interpret our reality. So, there might be a great opportunity sitting just in front of us, but we may not see it because of what we perceive is completely different.
Given that we create our lives from these programs we have got from other people, no wonder that our lives differ from that what we want.
To get out of your program, you must be aware that you’re running a program. You cannot change that you’re not aware is there.
Why People Don’t Change
People do what they used to do. They feel comfortable as long as they do what they are familiar with. But if you ask them to get out of their comfort zone and do something unknown and unfamiliar to them, they will start to feel resistance and will make up different excuses to stay in their comfort zone. That’s the ego in action.
Ego is a complex construct in your mind, it is who you think you are, your self-image. It will resist anything new and unpredictable and try to keep you in the known and predictable, just to keep you safe. Ego is in charge of survival, not happiness. Happiness is your job. And yes, your life can be better!
So, if you want to change, you need to invest some effort. It doesn’t have to be a physical effort, but you will need some mental effort to point your mind in the right direction. Majority of people never get ready to get out of their comfort zone because it’s easier to keep complaining about life, blaming other people or justifying their unsatisfied situation than to take responsibility for their life.
The Power of Decision
If you want to change your life, decide what you want. Think about what you want, but when it comes to the final decision, make your decision from your heart, rather than the mind because mind understands but the heart knows.
At the moment you make a decision, things start to change! But it has to be a firm decision, without any doubt on your side. You have to believe in yourself and your ability to change your life for the better.
Last summer, after I spent 2 weeks holiday on the beach and came back to work, I realized that was not kind of life that I wanted any more. I decided that I would spend the entire next summer on the beach. At the time I didn’t know how, but I believed in the power of decision.
And here I am – on the beach! It’s been 6 weeks already and I will stay here as long as the weather allows me.
How is that possible? Well, I got out of my comfort zone.
I quit my job and decided to be my own boss. Then I came across an online business education platform, where I learned new skills, built my own website and started writing a blog.
