HEAL documentary movie shows us that we have more control over our health and life than we have ever been taught to believe. It gives us a new understanding of the nature of the human body and mind and empowers us to look at our health and life from a different perspective.
HEAL, brilliant Kelly Noonan Gores’ documentary movie gathered leading scientists, doctors and spiritual teachers such as Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Gregg Braden, Anita Moorjani, Michael Beckwith, Marianne Williamson, Anthony William, Kelly Turner, Ph.D., and Dr. Kelly Brogan. It follows Elizabeth and Ewa on their healing journeys and introduces us to different approaches to healing.
We Are Not Victims
The latest science reveals that we are not victims of our genes and that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs have a huge impact on our health.
Research in epigenetics shows that more than 90% of all diseases are not genetically based. These diseases are the result of a response to an environment, or more precisely, our perception of an environment.
According to Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., a stem-cell biologist, if we change our perception of an environment, we can control our genetic activity. He believes that we are not victims of our DNA because our genes are expressed accordingly to our choices and our beliefs.
He emphasizes the impact of our subconscious mind on our perception and points out that the programs in our subconscious mind came from other people in the first 7 years of our lives.
He explains that at any given moment, we are either sending biochemical messages of “flight or fight” or “rest and repair” to our cells, which then respond accordingly.
With the speed of modern life, a majority of people find themselves in a chronic state of flight or fight, and when we are in this state for extended periods of time, our body does not have a chance to move into “rest and repair” mode, which leads to weak immunity and, eventually, disease.
He points out that 100% of diabetes type 2 has nothing to do with genetics and has everything to do with a lifestyle. In addition, he says that more than 90% of cardiovascular disease has its cause in a stress rather than in genes.
According to Gregg Braden, every organ in the human body has the ability to heal itself under the right condition given in the right environment.
Placebo vs Nocebo
Michael Beckwith states that tonic thoughts produce tonic chemicals while toxic thoughts produce toxic chemicals.
David R. Hamilton, Ph.D., organic chemist, while working in a pharmaceutical industry and tested drugs, discovered that sometimes placebo was equally effective as pharmaceutical drugs, which led to a conclusion that belief itself shifts the biology.
Bruce Lipton emphasizes that Nocebo (negative thinking) is equally powerful as Placebo (positive thinking) but works in opposite direction. He says that in the same way that placebo can cure any illness the nocebo can cause any illness and even death just because you believe that.
While our conventional medical system is extremely valuable for situations of trauma and acute crisis like infections, it is better to have a holistic approach to healing because conventional medicine deals with symptoms and does not deal with a root cause of the illness. Michael Beckwith emphasizes the side effects of drugs because more toxicity means more diseases.
Dr. Deepak Chopra also agrees that conventional medicine is useful in acute illness (injury and infection), which is about 10% of all illness, but if there is a chronic illness, he recommends using a holistic approach.
Kelly Turner, Ph.D. talks about radical remissions where people have suddenly healed from life-threatening diseases. She studied 1500 of these cases and identified 9 common traits of the remissions that were found in every case:
· Radically changing diet
· Taking control of health
· Following intuition
· Using herbs and supplements
· Releasing suppressed emotions
· Increasing positive emotions
· Embracing social support
· Deepening spiritual connection
· Have a strong reason for living
Anita Moorjani speaks about her near-death experience in 2006 while suffering from lymphoma followed by several tumors that her doctors said was terminal. When she was in a coma, she experienced a moment of total clarity of why she had gotten cancer and realized that every decision she had made in her life was out of fear. At that moment she knew that, if she went back into her body she would heal. At the end of five weeks, after coming out of her coma, her cancer had disappeared.
Dr. Joe Dispenza was a triathlete in 1986 when he fractured six vertebrae by falling over his bike. His prognosis was paralysis. Refusing a radical surgery that doctors recommended, Dr. Dispenza became occupied by one thought: “The power that made the body heals the body.”
He decided to make a contact with an intelligence that gives us a life and over the next 10 weeks, he meditated in his home and imagined himself healing by picturing his vertebrae realigning in the correct stature. After 10 weeks, he was walking again and after 12 weeks, he was back to training again. He made a deal with himself if he would ever walk again he would spend the rest of his life studying the mind-body connection and that is what he has been doing since.
Power of Belief
Michael Beckwith points out that we are conditioned to give our power away to doctors. By giving our power away to the authority, we become victims, which actually prevent our healing.
Dr. Deepak Chopra emphasizes that patients should believe the diagnosis, but not the prognoses, which are usually based on an average of thousands, and does not tell anything about you.
According to Dr. Joe Dispenza, when people start to believe that there are other options, they start to make different choices and start to overcome their emotions and limited thinking. As a result of their own personal changes, more possibilities show up and they start to see all kinds of magic to appear in their life.
Dr. Chopra discusses several types of meditation, which are ways to calm the mind and simply focus on the present.
Meditation shouts down fight and flight response, it stimulates parasympathetic relaxing nervous system of the body and that is what heals. At its basic level, meditation relieves stress.
According to energy medicine, we have learned how to hold on to our emotions and in doing so we create density in our body.
Kelly Turner, Ph.D. points out that our emotional blockages could lead to physical blockages and the idea is to release them. Some people do that through hypnotherapy, EFT, yoga, reiki, massage, laughter, music, breath work or acupuncture. You can choose whatever would cause you to let go unwanted emotions.
In the process of healing, it is important to work with doctors that treat you as a whole person and to surround yourself with people that support you rather than induce your fear.
Dr. Dispenza points out that when a person is given a diagnosis, they experience the emotion of fear or sadness. They can think positive thought but if they feel the fear that thought cannot pass from the brainstem to the body because it is not in alignment with the body’s emotional state. To stimulate healing, the person has to be in the state of gratitude because the emotional signature of gratitude means it already happened.
According to Gregg Braden, if we could feel as if our healing has already occurred, our body would grow the nerve cells to make the connection to trigger brain chemistry to reflect that healing.
